We
filmed yoga & you at
Ibizayoga — one of Europe’s
leading yoga centres — at the end of summer.
We were very fortunate
to have the most beautiful sunny weather, as the day before we arrived the area had been flooded by torrential
storms. In fact we had all brought our kagoules and
walking boots just in case.
We had a very small crew including
Nick Morris, the director, and Fiona O’Mahoney,
the producer. We all stayed together in a beautiful
villa near to the
beach, sharing all our
meals on the terrace at night after filming. Unfortunately,
we also had to share the shower, as only one was
working throughout our stay.
Nick and Fiona had found
us some
stunning locations. The only drawback was they
were not always that easy to reach or comfortable
to perform
on.
On the first day of filming
Nick pointed to a rock 20 feet above the sea and
ordered me to climb up there
before
the sun set. As I performed the sequence from the
Awakening section, I tried not to think about the
sheer drop
straight in to the water.
We also shot some wonderful
sequences in the caves surrounded by thousands of
twinkling tea lights. It
was blissfully
womb-like: My own secret grotto.
And we used the purpose-built
yoga platforms at Ibizayoga, sheltered from the
sun by vast white awnings, overlooking
tree lined mountains with views directly to the
beach and out to sea.
No lie- ins, most mornings
saw us up at 0430 preparing to catch the dawn.
However, the most hazardous
aspect of filming occurred on day 2 in the woods.
Performing warrior pose with
a lizard on my foot! Having played the vet in Emmerdale
for the last 14 years I have encountered most animals
but lizards are my pet hate.
In the programme we are wearing
yoga trousers that were designed especially for me
by Jane Hill who is
a costume
designer on Emmerdale.
I wanted to use fabric which
reflected the traditional origins of yoga.We found
this amazing material in Bradford
.
The music for yoga & you was
composed by Ryan Hedgecock (formerly of 'Lone Justice')
who lives in California.
Devising yoga
& you has not
only been a challenge but it has been enormously
rewarding and a lot of
fun. It
has been invaluable as an extension of my studies
and as a means of sharing something that has enriched
my
life.
yoga
& you is a very personal
view of my experience of yoga. In bringing you this
programme I hope I have
imparted some of my enthusiasm. I hope it will encourage,
inspire and challenge you.
Enjoy. |
